More and more kids play on soft, always-green fields at their school or parks. Is this a great convenience of modern life or a reason for concern? An official CDC Healthy Advisory issued June 18, 2008 warns about potentially high lead levels in some artificial turfs used on athletic fields and playgrounds. Artificial turfs made [...]

When I addressed the assembled crowd at the World Congress, I started by showing them this picture of hundreds of thousands of Koreans, some pushing strollers with young children, coming together as part of a month-long candlelight vigil to ask for healthy, safe food. They were upset about the safety of imported of American beef. [...]

Local Johns Hopkins-trained Pediatric Neuroscientist Dr. Joan Blom took best-selling author Frances Moore Lappe, Cheryl, and me for a cross country drive to a fabulous Italian restaurant, Vincenzo, for an all organic dinner.

Cheryl and I returned to the storied Piazza Grande for a cappuccino. While we sat under an awning of the sidewalk cafe, exhilarating in the thousand-year-old architecture, we saw fellow Organic Center board member Kathleen Merrigan strolling across the piazza. The throng in the big white tent in the Parco dispersed along the cobbled streets of the old city to 18 different Congress venues, in museums, universities, foundations, institutes, union halls, chambers of commerce, piazzi, and un palazzo. We all had to choose between a wealth of scientific research sessions, workshops, and policy forums, each [...]

A crowd from around the world gathered in the Piazza Grande in Modena Italy. Against an architectural backdrop of thousand-year-old buildings, with cobblestones beneath our feet and dramatic evening clouds above our heads, we watched a parade of flags with children from each country carrying their flag before the 16th IFOAM Organic World Congress.
Matteo Cifariello [...]

Our flight to Munich arrived late, so we get to spend the day in the Munich airport. Often, an airport is just an airport - but this one has German character through and through. Gleaming, futuristic, efficient, strict — all with an old world charm. The layover is an unexpected chance to get to talk [...]

Cheryl and I are at O’Hare Airport in Chicago getting ready to board a plane to Munich on our way to the World Congress of the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements. I’m excited to meet organic thinkers from all over the world. Different countries have different issues, but we share a common goal.
